Welcome to this month’s edition of Aquella Club News! Discover April’s triple treat which includes Songkran festivities, Junior Golf Program and our 2nd 6’s Series Tournament.
GOLF OPERATIONS
Understanding Par in Golf: Definition and Scoring.
In golf, par is the predetermined number of strokes that a proficient scratch golfer (a
player with a zero handicap) should be required to complete a hole, a round (the sum of the pars for the played holes), or a tournament (the sum of the pars for each round). For scoring purposes, a golfer’s number of strokes is compared to par to determine whether they were “over par”, “under par”, or even with/equal to par.
Holes are generally assigned par values between three and five, based on the distance from the teeing ground to the putting green, as well as other factors such as terrain and obstacles. Most standard 18-hole golf courses have a total par of around 72, while a 9-hole par-3 course (where all holes are rated as par 3) has a total par of 27.

The Power of Salt.
The main grass of the course is Paspalum platinum, which has high tolerance for salt conditions, including effluent irrigation – it grows especially well in coastal regions. Salt is composed primarily of sodium chloride.
It’s efficacy in weed control is rooted in its ability to absorb moisture. Salt works to kill weeds in two ways.
- It increases the levels of ions in the soil and increases osmotic pressure; as a result, the weeds are unable to absorb water and will dry out.
- It adds toxic mineral ions to the soil in the form of sodium, which replaces mineral ions that the weeds need to survive, such as calcium, magnesium and potassium.
Salt is there as one option used to control the weed in the course with low cost and safety for golfers.
